Flu Immunization Schedule and General Influenza Information

This website will have the most up to date information for our practice.

The doctors at Complete Care for Kids and the Centers for Disease Control recommend that all children over 6 months of age receive the seasonal flu vaccine.  Children 6 months through 8 years of age need only one dose of flu vaccine in 2016-17 if they received two doses of flu vaccine prior to July 1, 2015.

For the 2016-2017 flu season, the Centers for Disease Control recommend that the live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV), also known as the “nasal spray” flu vaccine, should not be used.  Only the inactivated vaccine will be available this season.  The inactivated vaccine is given by injection.

If your child has ever had a severe reaction to eggs or egg products or a severe reaction after receiving the flu vaccine, then s/he should not receive the vaccine.  In some cases you may be referred to an allergist to receive a lower dose of the vaccine.

We plan to start giving the flu vaccine by appointment in September 2016.  Please call to schedule an appointment for your child to receive flu vaccine as soon as possible.  The first flu vaccine clinic will be held on Saturday, October 8th.  A second clinic is scheduled for Saturday, October 22nd.  Please call the office to schedule an appointment if you would like your child to receive the flu vaccine on one of those dates.
